I'm looking to start a basic exercise regimen. How much more energy is used walking in sand than pavement?

I have a bit of a weight problem and I want to earnestly begin to lose weight. I weigh close to (perhaps over) 300 lbs. What's odd is that I don't really have a negative self image, I'm just trying to get healthy since I am at risk for diabetes on my father's side and circulatory/weight problems on my Mom's side. I am also a Geologist by trade and would also like to shape up to make my field work easier. I'm not a huge fan of exercise as you might expect, but I like going to the beach because of the people and scenery. I figured I would balance my dislike of exercise with my love of the beach by going for walks at the beach or even attempting some distance bicycling. I will be going to Huntington Beach to be specific. My question is this: In regards to walking, which burns up more energy, walking in sand or on pavement? Is there a percentage difference in the effort expended on sand VS. pavement (or even concrete)? In regards to distance bicycling, my goal is to achieve 10 miles per ride going up and down the biking paths down there.

Is it ok if I feel nervous?

Ok so I met this girl on this app on my phone about 2 and a half months ago and we started dating about 2 months ago and we talk non stop and call eachother and we have iChat so we can see eachother through that and so she is basically my first real girlfriend and I'm 15 now and she just turned 16 and I'll be 16 in two months and I'll get my licsence then so we can finally meet. And she lives about 2 hours from me so I can see her alot. But the thing is that I kindav feel really really nervous about meeting her for the first time. She said I could be some 300 pound hairy guy and she would still be happy to see me so I don't really have to worry about that but we both know what we look like but is there any way really not to be so nervous about this? Or will it probably go away within the 2 months?
